How one name their files, how to “reach” out to Google, and how one optimize their landing pages all combine to make a good SEO strategy for your website.

1. Defining SEO Landing Pages
In SEO, a landing page is a page that your specialist might create that targets very specific keyword phrases. For most companies, their landing pages will reflect their product or service offering, adjusted for how “real customers” search for them on Google. Companies in competitive industries like insurance, law, online coupon shopping and other industries where the SEO competition is fierce all use landing pages to help get to the top of Google!

Landing pages, however, are not simply about “pages tags.” Rather, they are always “one click” from the home page, thereby leveraging the home page’s SEO power to focus Google’s attention on these highly valuable keywords. Behind the scenes, there are also link-building efforts for most successful landing pages (which can be found here).

2. Progressive Insurance
As an example, let’s take a look at Notice how the major product offering are “one click” from the home page, and how the link structure reflects the target keywords. Of special import, Navigate to the side of the website and notice the links around target keyword phrases.

Contact us > links to
Portfolio > links to
Blog >

Notice how each landing page mirrors a logical keyword phrase (not just “contact” but “contact us”, not just “about” but “about us”, not just “portfolio” but “8gb portfolio”), and is “one click” towards the side of the home page. By “one click,” we mean just that: go to the home page, and simply click once on these links: you then land on the defined landing page. Google, in turn, interprets this “one click” links as a major signal of a keyword’s importance.

Structurally, therefore, here are your steps:

  • Identify five or fewer major product lines that “match” your priorty keyword phrases for SEO
  • Build keyword-heavy, SEO-friendly landing pages for each product line.
  • Make these one click from the home page via specific target keyword phrases.
  • Relegate secondary product lines to a “two click” structure: home page > gateway page > other landing page

So here you go peeps, here’s how one should always optimize their website structure in accordance to be successful in their SEO campaign.
